Can a performer switch back and forth between mainstream and porn?

Whether you are a male or a female, embarking on a career in the entertainment industry can be challenging and frustrating and it takes the right type of person to continue to be successful. Regardless, of the type of entertainer you are, a comedian, musician, actor, magician, the competition is fierce and the eliminating process is grueling.

Whether you choose to believe it or not, the adult industry is also full of competition. In order to be successful, you have to be good at what you do. You need to be level-headed, business-minded, and continue to persevere.

When I began to dig deeper into how many well-known actors and actresses today actually began their career in the adult industry, I find it to be rather satisfying, a breath of fresh air that they were able to be successful.

With many of my blog entries and my podcast guests, we continuously see the judgment on anyone involved in adult work so I ask myself, how did these performers “cross over to the other side” and what challenges did they face?

Let’s touch briefly on some of these performers who were successful in the switch. Sylvester Stallone 1970s adult film The Party at Kitty and Stud’s. Arnold Schwarzenegger was previously a nude model before embarking on his mainstream acting career. Actor, Matt Leblanc starred in a cable television show called The Red Shoe Diaries” that was just on the edge of being a porn film.

There are many others such as David Duchovny, Sasha Grey, Spalding Gray, Riley Steele and even Ron Jeremy has been able to make appearances in mainstream films due to his successful career in the adult industry.

Now let’s take a look into the opposite side of mainstream actors who chose to leave their career to embark on a career in the adult industry.

Scott Schwartz was child actor from A Christmas story who made the decision to work in adult films when he was struggling financially. Rachel Swimmer who first appeared in Laguna Beach has now made a full time career switch to adult films under her stage name, Tasha Reign, and has no regrets. Others include Kelli McCarty, Jonell Green who is now an adult performer under the name Aryana Starr.

In this day and age can a person switch back and forth between mainstream and porn? Is it more acceptable now? From my research, it is still a challenge to go from being an adult performer to the mainstream.

Very successful adult performers such as Nina Hartley, Stormy Daniels, and Ron Jeremy have been able to use their fame in Porn films to embark on appearances in the mainstream.

What does all this mean? Is it ok to switch from porn to mainstream and can you become successful? Or, if you leave the mainstream and choose to work in adult films is there success for you in porn?

I truly believe it is not the type of acting you do but instead, how you go about you’re the direction you take your career. Both can be lucrative but you need a level head, a business mind and the tenacity to keep trying.

In any career path you take, not just in the entertainment field but in the corporate world as well, you must be diligent and have a willingness to adapt to change. So take a breath and make your choice and then follow that all the way to the top. Success is in the eye of the beholder.

Till next time
