What a male needs to know if you want to do porn?

My blogs as you know coincide with my weekly guest on my podcast.  Today we released our interview with Nicky Rebel.  I will begin by sharing with you that this man has tenacity, integrity and is just a breath of fresh air.  He truly has a heart of gold and by the way he spoke and presents himself, he will be sure to open many of you to what it is like for a male in the adult industry.

In the past, I have touched a bit on how you as a male or female can get involved in the industry. We talk about background checks, reference on photographers and producers, running phone numbers and making sure you do nothing and give nothing for free.  The saying stands, “If is too good to be true, it probably is”.

Let’s begin with agents.  Do you need an agent to be in the industry? In the past, this was the absolute way to go for men and women breaking into the adult performing.  As time as passed with the internet and various websites, many adult performers choose to now self-book.  What about safety? How do you know it is a legit agency? How do you know they really are shooting an adult film when they e-mail you regarding your resume? How do you know what the standard industry rates are? Well, this is where I say do your background checks, get their phone number, name of company and run it.  Get references from models and always do not only a call, but a face to face app like Duo to see who you are agreeing to work with.  What about those rates I mentioned: These are always changing so follow the AVN website and Xbiz with information and links up to date.  The Free Speak Coalition is amazing and a great site to refer to for help.

Ok so, now men, you are asking is it the same for you. The answer is yes, you too can self-book and put yourself up on various job sites for adult work, but you must know that many men try to break into this industry and for the wrong reasons.  If you think you are going to get rich men and ladies, this is not your quick get rich scheme.  If you think it’s all about you getting laid, sorry but a lot of the work in this industry is actually fetish work.  Ball busting, submissive roleplay, food play, bubble blowing, balloon popping it is not always blow jobs and intercourse.

In our interview, Nicky and I discuss how an agent might be more beneficial to a male entering our industry as producers might take you more serious if you are represented.  I encourage anyone in this industry to put have a clause in your contract that you can self-book.  This means if you find a small producer doing a BJ shoot (Blow Job) that you can book that without agency fees.

Let your agent book you the bigger jobs and small work try to still find on your own.  No matter what, stay safe, stay smart, stay clean and make your own choices. No agent and no producer can force you to do a scene or a shoot you do not want to.  Be true to you and be strong.

With love,
